Demonoid Shut Down by CRIA, Heroes 2 Woes
Demonoid, the second largest and one the best private .torrent file trackers has been shut down by the Canadian Recording Industry Association. Demonstrating (mini-pun) yet again, people -- that corporations are slowly taking away everything that does not benefit them. Everything that is awesome -- is in danger. (see: Ateneo Dress Code)
But what's even more frustrating is that they had to do it just when the first episode for Heroes Season 2 comes out. Here in the Philippines, we only get Heroes on RPN Channel 9. Obviously they are still in the first season, and we cannot expect that they also show Season 2 episodes as they are released just like in the US. We have to wait for the season to complete, and then they release it. Me and my friends rely on P2P to get our media fix, the local shows suck, and with the p2p community taking blow after blow -- it really sucks.
People have been discussing possible 'havens' for P2P ever since Pirate Bay initiated the move to purchase their own country (nothing happened), and honestly, these havens do not exist. Always, there will be a catch. A catch that mainly involves copyright laws, internet laws, piracy, and corporations who are desperately trying to protect their money.
Long live P2P,
KUMAN

Blog Disappearing From Google?
23.9.07
I'm having this really weird problem with my blog showing up on Google. During the first week that I upped this blog I was ranked number 6 for the keyword kumansenu, sitting with other sites that are mostly about the story 'Life is Sweet at Kumansenu'. Wow. My name is a fictional place (I had no idea, I got the name from-- another entry will handle that), and my last name is an old gaming platform - I can live with that (you guys do understand that Kumansenu Atari is just my online name, right?). So, I sit there at number 6 with the 'other' kumansenu websites. Like moving into a neighborhood where every other kid has the same name as yours. I'm cool.
A few days later, I do a recheck if my blog is still there only to find that the link to my blog is gone. Pffft. Gone. I went from number 6 to doesnotexit that fast.
Do take note that I do understand that a blog that's only a few days old won't have the staying power as those literary blogs that have already been established since godknowswhen. I can even accept being pushed to page 1 billion of the results for the word kumansenu. It's just annoying, because even a 'site: kumansenu.blogspot.com' search yielded no results - and that confirms I'm no longer indexed by Google.
Of course, I let it pass and give it a few more days. I tell myself that maybe the spiders are having trouble crawling through my site, etc. And so a few more days in and I'm back - somewhere around top 20. And I'm cool with that. So my 'virtual house' in this neighborhood of kumansenu's just got moved a few blocks - I'm okay with that.
What's totally uncool happens a few more days later, when I do another recheck only to find that I cannot find myself (ha!). I'm gone again. It's really annoying. Someone is moving my house around. How the hell am I supposed to receive my mail? And that's not all, people, what's even more annoying is that my DEAD blog and DEAD social-networking profile are listed up there in the top 10 while I'm trying to find my new and active house. Both are officially dead, inactive - blog contains nothing, click it and you get an error page; profile, on the other hand, has been untouched for months. Both still manage to beat this one. Could it be age? Weird, right?
Anyway, I'm done whining. I've done some countermeasures. Just in case anyone else is having the same trouble as I am with their 'houses', here's basically what I did:
I submitted the site to Technorati; used the add site function of Google as well. Also placed a link to this blog through my Yahoo! Messenger status so my contacts can see my awesomeness. My next course of action is to get some link-loving from some friends. I've done some research on my own, and it seems those can help with this type of problem. Let other people know that your blog exists, and Google will take notice. Spiders crawl through your friend's blog with a link to your site; said spider ends up crawling your site too. Frequent blog visits then improve your ranking. Makes perfect sense to me.
I've decided to give it time, hoping that things will be 'normal' again. A test of patience. If it works, then YAY. If it doesn't, then I'll just have to beat every kumansenu site out there (lol wut).
You hear me, 'Life is Sweet at Kumansenu'? I'm coming for you!
Prep time,
KUMAN
Ateneo Dresscode (Kumansenu Special)
20.9.07
Ateneo Dresscode (Kumansenu Special Part 1 of 2)
The rumor mill has activated and word quickly spread that a) the smoker's pocket gardens are going to be removed via focus firing from the Ateneo Low-Altitude Ion Particle Cannon and b) a dresscode will be implemented -- and soon.
A lot of people have been trying to act civil with regards to the dress code - voicing their opinions through meaningful conversation with friends, and expressing their thoughts on their personal blogs. I am really proud to say that this is very mature of the Atenean (totally hate it), and I too would like to voice my opinion on the matter.
Honestly, I am worried with what’s happening within our school. Sad to say, it seems as if we are slowly exhibiting characteristics of the outside world. With the supposed changes the admin intends to bring to our school, it is almost as if they are stripping us (pun absolutely planned) of our rights to wear almost nothing and feel awesome about it when other people check us out. But it’s not just the clothes anymore – it’s more of the oppression of freedom of speech and personal choice (in degradation through indecent exposure).
We are slowly turning into a mini-Philippines in our campus - a place where those who do not possess power are set aside; stripped of their rights (pun absolutely planned again); left waiting on the leftovers of the mighty. This initial movement for supposed change is a sign; the similarities are uncanny.
I dare say, our heaven, Ateneo, has been desecrated. Our one place of solitude where we are protected from the kadiri truth of society has been infected. While we’ve tried so hard to stay away from this truth, fearing that it may corrupt us – it now stands, staring us in the face. It is real and has made its way into the walls of our own campus.
It really saddens me, fellow Atenean, that the administration itself has opened our very door to let this kadiri intruder in. Buddha knows that the night I heard of the news, 3 cats were killed in our neighborhood.
Seriously.
With the implementation of a dress code, not only are we violating student rights (lol wut), but we are also eliminating the two main selling points of our beloved school: a) our hot female populace and b) the fashion-sense of said populace which mostly involve small pieces of clothing in strategically placed locations on the body. With this very move, Ateneo could very well lose its overall appeal as a respected university. We are eliminating an asset, a feature that sets us apart. I can only imagine what will happen to our accreditation if this pushes through. And, dammit, don’t get me started to the possible reduction of enrollees once this thingy has been successfully implemented.
We are killing Ateneo innovation. WE. If we let this happen, then we are accountable for the murder, the extinction of something that has given humanity so much (and in so little, if you know what I mean). It baffles me that the people behind this movement could fail to see the genius behind the very thing they are trying to kill.
I mean, simply look at the placement, the attention to detail when it comes to this style of fashion. One who takes on this style must take into consideration gravity and drag, as well as other outside forces that may misalign the different fabrics on a daily basis. Hell, it isn’t even on a daily basis – it’s every minute that said person is engaged in said style. Can we simply throw away the science behind such (skimpy and awesome, btw) outfits? I for one do not see the point in this so-called movement of the administration. All I see is inferior logic from the higher-ups.
I walk around campus -- I SEE PERFECTION. I see an ART. But much like true art of today, it is also being threatened by the corporations (yeah, the corporations!) who want to brainwash the youth into becoming mindless corporate zombies. I fear the day that this will all go away; that one of the things that make Ateneo life worthwhile be removed for all eternity. I still can’t believe the admin let this happen (shoutouts to the Sanggu people). Such a waste.
If the plan does push through – I will mourn when that day comes. I mourn for every freshman who steps into the doors of the Ateneo and sees not a trace of sensual-thought-tingling skin. I mourn for those who have wasted their life in training. Wasted years of experience equipping oneself with such apparel and not expose any vulnerability - to cover so much with so little. I pray that you may find another way to express your skill and creativity, much like a simple probinsyano – forced to leave the olden ways and adapt. I sincerely hope that you find another form of release, and so just in case, drop me a line (kumansenu.blogspot.com, just leave a comment detailing your cellphone number, free time, and if available - vital statistics). I will be more than happy to help, this is a loss for all of us.
I dare say the peak Ateneo innovation is very close to its end. So much awesomeness concentrated in one place. Only in the Ateneo. Our greatest gift to humanity, a wonder for the world to behold. You will be remembered, missed, pissed and frustrated over.
The Atenean in me died a little. All is lost. It seems as if nothing can be done to stop them. I am afraid that we are as good as doomed. Admin as the power of ‘expel student, while all we have is ‘backstab’. We’ve been totally outclassed; but that’s just the way life goes. Sad, but true.
If they succeed to take away the things we love, what’s next is still a mystery to me. I love our school and it's been the best 4 years of my life. I'm seeing it change right before my very eyes and I don't like what I'm seeing.
All I can do is watch, wait, and attack if given the opportunity.
Feel free to bash, take me seriously.
Much love,
KUMAN

Argh! Ateneo!
16.9.07
I've been busy working on our team's game design script the entire afternoon. I've passed it to Aaron for editing and major fine-tuning now. A lot of people aren't showing up online. I know why, but I'll just say, "Hmmm... weird". Srsly u guise. Going ninja on me?
Game design is looking good, me and Aaron (http://www.aaronroselo.net) having some major lulz with the dialogue. Our game is being developed using the Neverwinter Nights Aurora toolkit by the way, so it's more of a MOD more than anything. Anyway, the 4 professors who will be grading us will be basing a huge chunk of our grade in our depiction of our individual stories so no big deal. I hope we get a good final grade for game design, as well as 3d modeling (a separate class). I need the extra pull of easier subjects to pull up my project management and accounting classes.
School-work is starting to really pile up, I've a lot of stuff to do for this week. 2 projects, and 1 long test. Ateneo is so... ARGH!
Dining in hell,
KUMAN
X Hero Siege
11.9.07
X Hero Siege, or XHS for short, is the new game me and my buddies from Faura Back are currently hooked on (besides DOTA -- but that's just them, I just observe [and point out every flaw in game play]). Basically, you form a team of 8 players and your goal is to defend your castle against the coming army of darkness.
Sounds simple, eh? And as a matter of fact, it is (no witty retaliation necessary from moi). You basically defend your castle with your team mates from wave after wave of monsters that seek its destruction. You level-up and build up your stats, and after beating the initial waves -- you go for the counter-attack, eventually leading to the final encounter with the final boss. THAT'S IT, plain and simple.
You take a bunch of bored guys and put them up against the massive armies of darkness, with the enemies numbering to the thousands, and you, my friend, have lord of the rings two towers awesomeness on the screen. It's a very simple idea and is just outright fun on the most basic sense. It's exciting to fight against such odds. Add the fact that you're playing with friends opens up an entire array of combinations you can pull off, as well as strategies (we already have one, ha!).
XHS is made of epic awesome, I highly approve. 5 starfalls out of a possible 2 moonwells.
You could probably score a copy or download if this game on the web. Apply your google-fu. I got my copy from a friend, so... Good luck with finding it, it shouldn't be that hard.
Protip: don't use the Archmage,

Weekend! YAY! (edit) + Daily Crawl
8.9.07
My well deserved weekend will be a very busy one. It's getting late and I'm very sleepy, I'll just leave this here and edit it first thing in the morning.
Edit: Okay, it's 8am and I have to pickup my girlfriend at Bluewave, Marikina. Woofoo. I'll get back to writing this-- maybe tonight? XD
I also added the Daily Crawl section to your left; it's basically a list of sites and blogs I visit on a regular basis. I might add more once I remember, I find it hard to put stuff in writing when I have to draw them from memory. LOL to me for not using bookmarks. XD
Get some sleep(edit: good morning!),
KUMAN
Fridays
I'm having trouble sleeping. It's already 1am and I still can't sleep. Earlier I was really sleepy, but when I was about to, a part of me said that I would just be wasting time sleeping. Talk about weird, eh?
Here's what I've been up to today (stress and epic awesomeness follows):
Project Management. Finally met up with our contact and sponsor from the Ateneo Grade School, Mr. Salvador. Great guy. We were able to finalize the requirements for the project. Did co-project manager work, AJ was down with the sickness (d-d-down with the sickness). Had to cut a 2 subjects just for this meeting but it was worth it. I'm in deep trouble in PM as well as Philosophy, so yeah, worth it (I think). My PM midterms grade is at an all-time low.
Theology Video. After the super awesome pictorial we had yesterday for our Theology video (our video was composed of images, think: uber dramatic slide-show with background music), I had to wake up really early this morning to edit the pictures and make them 300-ized. I'll post pictures once I have the time. The video turned out great. It was EPIC. Even Rocky said so.
Passing it though was another story. Used up a lot of gas and money just to burn a CD. CD wont burn initially, so we had to buy another one which also didn't work. We then drove to CD-R King, but they were closed, so we had to go back to the Ateneo again. Just had it burned at the RSF, then drove to the Loyola House to pass it.
On a related note: Psychic Front Desk Personnel. Seriously, she was able to tell that our professor was JBoy and that the CD contained a video. She was awesome. slashSarcasm.
Bob the AE92. Had my car's (Bob is his name, I'll get to writing the entry about him soon, haha) original side-view mirrors replaced with 1:1 ratio ones. And they totally suck I can hardly see anything beside me while driving. I should get them replaced with ones like before. I am expecting a long sermon from the grand papa for this one - mainly revolving around 'I should just deal with it' - which I won't do.
Accounting 15. I do not want to go to accounting tomorrow. This week has been hell and I think I deserve a break. Besides, I've other work to do. I've got 2 D's already, and all I need is one more. I'll just concentrate on other requirements first.
Steef. Passed by today and took some pictures. Too bad JR and the other Faura people were out playing DOTA (I think).
Tomorrow should be another busy day working on project management. Have another meeting with the team for the assignment of tasks and the actual start for the paperwork. I hope there's a free parking slot at Xan Land - too lazy to park in the Ateneo and walk there.
Wish moi luck,
KUMAN
Hot, hot heat!
6.9.07
When they said it was going to be hot, I did not expect it to be this hot. Shouldn't the rainy season be here already? We've had 3 epic storms in the past few months and now the slightest chance of rain is gone. Well, it did rain hard last night, but it only lasted for a few minutes (at least I slept well thanks to the temperature change it brought).
Making matters worse, I had to go to school today without my car. Yep, I've returned to commuter status for the worst day in the week to not have a car. My class starts very early at 7:45, and getting a ride to school is very difficult from my location. Add heat, and my morning was an epic epitome of fail. I was lucky the traffic wasn't that heavy; only ended up a few minutes late.
I had the reverse lights for the car checked up. We initially thought that it was the contact point at the shift that was acting up so the lights don't trigger. But apparently, the bulbs themselves were just a little loose. I also had the side-view mirrors changed, not so happy with those though, it was a crappy job. If continues to annoy me for the next few days, I may have them changed back to the original ones.
Currently decided that I've to save up for a new set of mags/tires for my car. AE92s are awesome, and all it takes is a nice set of wheels to complete its awesomeness. Seriously, I find stock AE92s very appealing, just slap a good set of shoes and your down. THEY ARE AWESOME. PERIOD.
I've a very busy day for tomorrow. Client meetings, as well as submission of video-concepts. More and more deadlines pile up as we pass through the midterms. Berlake needs a miracle.
Hell week comes,
KUMAN
Blogging Day 2
5.9.07
Hello, day 2.
For two days now the weather has been freaking awful. Even as early as 7 in the morning, you kind of feel it's already noon. And when noon does come, you are most probably already pissed.
I for one am grateful for the invention of air conditioning for cars and class rooms. Even though I'm a stingy person when it comes to gas expenditures, I just had to turn that dial to the highest setting and let the epic awesome cool me down. Cheers
Tomorrow doesn't look to good though. I watched the evening news for the weather forecast tomorrow and it's still going to be scorching hot - 34 degree peak, care of a high pressure area. What? I seem to be picking up 'global warming' from the crowd.
Better wear white, people. It's much cooler. Bring a fan, a bottle of water. Don't let the heat get to your head (both of them).
Much love,
KUMAN
Hello, world!
When I first took up JAVA, our first exercise involved printing out the words "Hello, world!" on the screen. It was relatively easy, a soft introduction into the programming hell I'd have to go through for the next few years of college; and yet again now it serves its purpose as I re-enter the series of tubes known as the internet (the internet is not like a dump truck, listen to that man).
I'm using the word 're-enter' as I've already tried blogging many times before. Consistency has always been a problem for me, mainly because I get distracted easi -- Jessica freaking Alba!
(...)
See? Inconsistency live and in your face. Hypothetical high-five!
If I'm not mistaken, this would count as my 4th blog. And my past blogs were awesome. A little empty on the content side (like this one is any different), but the designs are mind-blowing (they really blow -- your mind). I like making stuff look pretty, sophisticated. But for this one, I'd like to keep it as simple as possible. Just some text on the screen, images (I've lots to share), maybe even some of my finds as I do my daily net crawling. I'll even tell you guys about the real world (yes, I've been there), the world outside. Believe me, it'll be fun.
(...)
Looks like this'll be all for now, folks. I have some importan -- OMG her clothes burned right off!
Guess what I'm watching,
KUMAN
